How to prepare for a home visit

When you book an appointment online, you will receive 2 emails for 2 different intake forms that need to be completed prior to the appointment. Please be advised that I cannot travel to your home until the intake forms are completed. The sooner the better. If I get a cancellation, ahead of our appointment, I will try to see you sooner.

Here is some information to help you prepare for the visit:

Try to time your earlier feeds so that your baby will want to eat while I'm there. Please try not to feed your baby in the hour directly before I arrive. If we can see typical feeding behaviors during our visit it will be easier for me to have a clear picture of what’s going on.

If you have a dog, please have them in a separate room when I arrive. I love dogs, but they can behave unpredictably with strangers when there’s a new baby in the house.

I will need a small space to set up my scale. We will be weighing your baby in only a diaper, so please have a small blanket or changing pad (or something similar) for me to put down on the scale so your baby is more comfortable when weighing. I will also need a dry diaper so I can subtract the weight.

Please have the following information on hand:

  • Baby’s weight history since birth, including dates

  • Number of feeds in the last 24 hours

  • Number of wet and dirty diapers in the last 24 hours

  • If supplementing, the average amounts of breastmilk and/or formula given to baby per feed and per day

  • If pumping, the average amount you are pumping per session and per day

If you already have an appointment confirmed, please take a moment to register for secure messaging. This way we can communicate in a HIPAA compliant format. Follow this link.

I look forward to meeting you and your baby.
