I’m writing to say THANK YOU - for helping me learn to breastfeed and continue this blessing - when I was truly at the end of my road. We are now almost four months in and going completely great. Your calm confidence saved my dream and my daughter’s chance at mamma’s milk. That is a priceless gift.

Josh and I just couldn’t decide. We went back and forth on the question “to doula, or not to doula” throughout my second trimester. Looking back, I truly cannot imagine my labor and giving birth without her. As soon as we met with Rachel, it felt so much clearer to us both that we wanted to work with a doula, and specifically with Rachel. It is not just that she was professional and prompt in her communication (both of which were important to us)— but when it came to the week in which I actually wound up giving birth, she was a source of encouragement, strength, and incredible health. Throughout my labor (including an early start that stalled earlier in the week), Rachel’s instincts were right on target.  Throughout my labor she was nimble— following our lead, offering her expertise as guidance. She was also tireless—- she arrived at our apartment at 3am, and didn’t leave our side until nearly 28 hours, once our daughter was in my arms, and she had helped us get started on breastfeeding. She was absolutely indispensable five days later, when I was home from the hospital and having a hard time breastfeeding. Again, her patience, expertise, and kind nature helped me through. As a rabbi, I think a lot about how to accompany people through lifecycle moments—- how to frame experiences for people that are singular moments in their lives in ways that help them to glean meaning. Since giving birth to our daughter Lola, I have thought about the role that Rachel played as our doula, and see that there are many similarities. She was able to accompany Josh and I on a path that we were experiencing for the very first time—- gently guiding and supporting us. I would highly recommend Rachel to anyone who is hoping for labor and delivery support or lactation counseling from a truly gifted individual.

Where to begin? You have been a priceless source of strength, wisdom, knowledge and experience for us during such a major life event. The time you took to meet with us and answer our questions leading up to labor helped us feel ready and equipped.

Your calming and prepared presence during labor and delivery allowed us to handle the unexpected realities of the process and your postpartum work with us was maybe the most valuable, as there are so many questions during this transition. We know many unknowns are still yet to be uncovered (hopefully not in the form of teeth for another few months) but you have helped give us the tools we need to manage and cope with them as they arise.

We don’t know what we would have done without you. Thank you for helping us bring our little girl into the world!

Many thanks and much love.
